Stock, on balance I would say that helping poor and homeless people is a good thing and not a bad thing. Especially if the help involves teaching them to fish, vs catching all the fish for them. I guess it depends on how you view help? Sometimes just guiding and instructing a homeless teenager on how to fill out a job application is the most rewarding kind of help. Especially when a year later, you see them living reasonably well, and working their way through High School.

Why bother to care about others? Is that what you're asking?

I'll phrase my answer this way....Picture your funeral, we will all die someday, now imagine what kinds of things your family and friends are saying about you. What would you most like them to say?

That he didn't care about anything but himself?
