Goldsnow,

You need to go back and read your Russian history. That is an extremely warped summary of the the history and a ridiculous typecasting of it's peoples.

One wonders how they ever put the first satellite into space with all the intellectuals dead and the rest drunk.

JMHO,
Ron

**OT** - Russia:

Two generations is probably unrealistic though [for economic recovery of Russia].

The same thing would have been said of Korea, which was much more of a third world country two generations ago than Russia is today. What happened? Many of their best and brightest moved out, but then came as Korea became wealthier, and in the process they brought with them a lot of knowledge.

Another thing to keep in mind with Russia is they are phenomenal stoics. They will grin and bear conditions most of us would find intolerable. Thus, although I agree that there is a reasonable concern that Russia will turn jingoistic/fasciest(sp?) or back to communism, it isn't as certain as the economic conditions might lead an American to believe.

All JMO.

Clark

Goldsnow,

Forgive me, but your brief look at Russian history is misinformed and reflects on almost "comic book" understanding of this incredibly diverse and culturally rich country. You have fallen prey, I suspect, to the cold war version of what Russia is about. I urge you to read and broaden your base of knowledge. At present my feeling is that the Russian people are caught up in what will surely be a struggle that could have much greater historical consequences then the misguided era of Bolshevism.

best,
Stitch
