How good are the (AltaVista) translations? You ought to go there and give it a shot. Do a search on some simple french word like Bordeaux - look for a french page and ask for a translation. IMHO For a scholar or a 4 star general - it's not ready for prime time. For a average person - it just falls in the window of acceptability. The pages I translated (fast translation!) had some words obviously wrong but on the whole it was pretty good - I would say 80% right. You really can carry on a conversation with a foreigner provided you realize this and it would be real rewarding (especially to the foreigner). Europe is going internet in a big way next year and now is the perfect time for CPQ to try and make a deal with the French government or whoever to become the default portal with French-English translations. Hope CPQ is awake enough to jump on this. The technical lead won't last and you can't sit and wait in todays market.
