Cargill reported $468 million in earnings for the 1997-98 fiscal year, down 43 percent from the previous year. Sales fell eight percent to $51 billion and cash flow was down 15 percent to $1.6 billion for the year, which ended May 31. The company cited global excess capacity in grain handling and processing, the drop-off in Asian demand caused by economic turmoil there, greater market unpredictability caused by El Nino and losses in Cargill's consumer finance businesses, which the company has exited. >>

i am driving myself crazy trying to recall
the name of the book which prominently
featured cargill, the russian wheat debacle & surplus in the states,
and....of course, armand hammer.

it was in published in the mid 70's.
was it THE GRAIN MERCHANTS?
