Prospector, After reading the barrage of negative USW posts you provided for our reading pleasure, I think we all get your point. Having originally lived in remote "US West" territory, I can relate to the difficulties of having proper bandwidth and connectivity. My parents are still dealing with this problem. However, there exists considerable upside with USW as well, primarily in the ADSL(Asynchronous Digital Subscriber Line) which will use existing twisted pair copper line to transmit at bandwidths of 1.5Mb/second (download) and 10% of that for upload. And it will do this without interupting your ability to make or take normal phone calls. (ie: no dial-up required and constant connection) And yes, while it will take years for this capability to reach the finer corners of BFE, in the 40 metropolitan locations where USW is unveiling ADSL, those subscribers will experience SERIOUS connectivity. And the profits from that service will drive down the cost of providing that service to smaller communities. Btw, I currently utilize a cable modem and ADSL blows its doors off from demonstrations I have witnessed. Remember the glass may be half empty from your perspective, but it is half full for others, especially USW shareholders. And when USW unveils its WebTV style service through AIME, it will be just that much more attractive. You like to complain alot, but your main problem is you think you should be able to live in remote locations, yet still reap the benefits of the latest technology. And private enterprise doesn't work that way. Suggest you move to a larger population base. Regards, Ron
