Bill - Re: "the CE offerings seem to want to be full computers with rinky dink keyboards and thus they do all things poorly and no thing well. "

Yep - Microsoft's first attempt at ousting the Palm Pilot isn't working.

Personally, I don't think the palm PC and the CE devices with full keyboards are even in the same category. I used to carry a heavy laptop on the road but dumped it for several reasons. One, it was heavy. Also, it took forever to boot when all I wanted to do was type a few notes in a conference. I finally came to the realization that ALL I really needed for the road was a device to collect my email and make a few notes. After trying out and returning 3 portables, I bought a NEC MobilePro 750C (Windows CE device). It's an instant-on device, which is cool if your need to make some quick notes or look over some mail while you're waiting for a meeting. It also has a normal keyboard so I can actually type information in. Plus, it has the full complement of CE software like the Pocket Outlook Contacts database that syncs with my desktop.

I'm really sold on this thing and I rarely give product endorsements. IMO, it (or similar devices) is the only way to go unless you really just want something to throw in your shirt pocket. The thing weighs about 2 pounds.
