Well, I've joined the ranks of Marty Lee and SlateColt. I've finally gotten around to Wave-enabling my novel like I've been talking about for awhile. This post will be a brief report on what it's like to be a Wave Systems client, and also a shameless plug for my book. The bottom line is that the process of wave-enabling electronic content really works smoothly, even for someone like me who doesn't know a whole lot about working this technology -- I mean, I'm someone who is just been learning to build a really simple web page. With only a few minor and easily fixable glitches, I was able to get my content encrypted and available for sale. I've always understood in a somewhat abstract way how the whole Wave system works. But this experience has driven home to me just how powerful the Self-Merchandising Object really is. SMOs sell themselves. Which is really cool. A link becomes a storefront. It's a very powerful tool. (All I want now is for people to be able to decrypt my content using a WaveMeter on their own PC, rather than having to link to it over the web.)

I went through this whole process partly because I want to offer my novel for sale, but also because I really wanted to understand what it would be like for content providers to sign on with Wave. So I tried to keep in mind throughout all of this what I would think of this system if I were a big software producer. Basically, what I would see is a very simple way to increase opportunities for sales. Because I can place a link anywhere on the web that places a user just a few clicks away from buying my product. It's very cool and it's incredibly simple to use. As much as anything, it impresses me how simple and seamless Wave has made the system.

Now for the shameless plug part. You can follow this link:

to get to the introductory page for the book. It's a literary novel about Utah Mormon family which is kind of coming apart at the seams. It's pretty dark stuff (dark enough that traditional publishers have said that's the reason they wouldn't buy it), but a lot of people have liked it. Anyway, the first chapter is free. If you like it, you can read on for $2.00 a chapter. (I'll soon be offering the entire novel as well -- at a discount of course.) Also, if you snoop around on my page you'll find some pictures of my son -- those I should really charge for!

On a more pressing subject, I agree with Raffica and others here who have been thinking that Friday's move portends some upcoming news. Friday looked like every other time the stock started to move ahead of news. I'll just bet that tomorrow drives the point home. Who knows what the news will be, but I'm feeling very optimistic right now.
