PRI Automation Promotes Tyson To CEO; Wiesler to Continue as Chairman
Business Wire - August 18, 1998 17:03

BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 18, 1998--PRI Automation, Inc. (NASDAQ:PRIA), a leading supplier of factory automation systems to the semiconductor industry, today announced that Mitch Tyson, 44, has been promoted to chief executive officer, effective immediately. Tyson, who joined the company in 1987 as vice president, operations, has been its chief operating officer since 1990 and president since 1995. Mord Wiesler, 68, a founder of PRI Automation and chief executive officer since the company's inception in 1982, continues as chairman of the board.

"Mitch has actually been running the day-to-day business for several years now, and the board has unanimously accepted my recommendation for this change," said Wiesler. "He has demonstrated strong leadership of our operations as we've grown from $9 million to nearly $230 million in annual revenues. His most recent contributions -- to our consistent gains in market share around the world, our progress toward delivering a broad range of 300-mm products, our building of a strong management team and our successful acquisitions of Interval Logic and Equipe Technologies -- prove his readiness to assume the full responsibilities of the CEO, while I take on a more strategic role."

"I have enjoyed a tremendous learning experience with Mord over the last 10-plus years," said Tyson. "I look forward to working closely with him on the company's technology and strategy. In his new role, he will continue to make strong contributions to PRI's record of success and tradition of industry leadership."

Before joining PRI Automation in 1990, Tyson was director of product management at GCA Corporation, a manufacturer of semiconductor capital equipment. He holds three degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology: an M.S. in nuclear engineering, an M.S. in political science and a B.S. in physics.
