Prospector, I have a problem with Dell (true story). I ordered hardware from them ONCE and the operator followed a rather bizarre procedure for taking my credit card info, saying the computer system was down and doing it all by hand. Coincidentally my credit card had an unauthorized charge the following month for car repairs 1,000 miles away from my home. I think this operator's boyfriend in the shipping department was probably hooked up to some kind of credit card fraud ring. I don't blame Dell management and I can't see what can possibly be achieved by going on the Dell thread and ranting at the person who started the thread. These are big companies. I have yet to see ANYONE on the AOL thread say that AOL is anything but an arrogant, inefficient, customer-unfriendly company. I hope this will be the demise of AOL but the converse seems true. They seem to grow market share through arrogance. Do you think bad service is USWest company policy, or is it just possible that (a) their future services are quite simply not fully deployed yet and you'd be better off elsewhere for simple dialup access, and (b) their explanation for the problems you are experiencing is a good one? Do you think US West built the telephone infrastructure in your area, or are they responsible for the fact that upgraded phone infrastructure has not been built? Legacy technologies have a tendency to get short shrift. I am personally not one of those who thinks everyone should be on the cutting edge, but am ALSO not one who thinks we can expect things not to move forward...people complain about websites with frames that require the 'latest' browsers...well that's fair enough but since Netscape 2 can handle frames I find it rather silly to expect web developers to keep writing to cater to people using Netscape 1.1, I mean COME ON! I know I know these big companies are SOOO arrogant...I mean I can't even get a discount anymore for using a rotary dial phone, I mean can you believe it? USWest's future is not in slow dialup access. So your solution is simple. Change ISP's.
