I've not heard of a tax-free dividend - at least not in the U.S. (Dividends are tax free in Hong Kong). I think that's why share buybacks are preferred in the states.

Thanks for you opinion. I agree that a long-term solution would be best. You really stuck a point to me that I didn't consider much.
While stock buybacks would be great for me in the short term the cost to the company would be greater than other alternatives.
Reducing the float. It seems that creaf really doesn't high much liquidity. It only takes one fund or ex company exec to dump and severely impact stock price. To reduce the float might make the stock volatile.
