At $1-$2 apiece, Zip would be that medium.

The problem with this scenario is that it may currently cost Iomega more than $1-$2 to produce a Zip disk. Moreover, since a Zip disk holds 70 times the capacity of a 1.4 MB floppy disk, one might predict that only 2.3B/70 = 33 million Zip disks would be needed each year. If you up this number to 100 million Zip disks (because most disks are not fully used, file size is increasing, etc.), this only represents $100 - $200 million in yearly sales for Iomega. Nothing to sneeze at, but not a bonanza either.
