Jim, the plan as I last heard it was for USB to replace serial/parallel port and firewire to replace SCSI so that the future PCs and Macs will have a combination of these two ports. Intel for some reason has delayed implementation of firewire on the motherboard for a while - perhaps they see more life in SCSI, while Apple appears to be moving toward that direction faster. Haven't heard how successful Win 98 implementation of USB has been - Win 95 was pretty bad. Have to wait and see until we hear from more posters whether Apple has done better. I would suspect peripherals will become more common by Xmas but you can get popular HP and Epson USB printers now and your correct several low end scanners are also USB. The fact that both Apple and MS have implemented USB bodes well for increasing numbers of products. As for headsets and boom mikes - that's not a typical peripheral for a low end user but I perhaps some of the USB speakers on the market have a jack for that kind of thing. Interesting, I'll have to look around. If you want all the bells and whistles you would buy a G3 machine not an iMac as I mentioned but for the price - it's a pretty good deal. Rich
