You might want to read the comments in its entirety before you make your statements. The newsletter writer was stating that his index which includes juniors is down 85% to the same level as 1974, which is comparable to the 1929 crash in DOW stocks (down 89%). The XAU is down less than that because it excludes junior mining companies. As for the juniors they have been in the forefront of international gold mine exploration for some. The effects of the lack of exploration in the last 2 years will have an impact in the near future. It is through the efforts of companies like Arequipa that producers like Barrick can now boast about the Pierina mine about to produce 750,000 oz of gold at a cash cost of $50 per oz. FYI Arequipa was purchased by Barrick for $1 billion in 1996.

Here is the link to Bobby's post again FYI.

>>>The XAU is not at 19, but is around 60<<<

DUH that figure was used as a comparative basis for the gold complex as a whole! If you don't think this is a Great Depression in gold stocks just talk to a few buy and holders, who bought previous to 10/97.

Here are some more tidbits, I'll share even with a bad mannered DIM like you -g-

The weekly MACD & RSI and A/D Line is not confirming these current lows, basis the January lows.

As we've seen in the DOW, which the jury is still out, but in my mind is bear confirmed, first you see a momentum peak (April) then you see a non-confirmed peak(s) (July) to complete the topping process. I think we have the same thing in reverse on the XAU.

<<As for the crash in junior gold stocks, so what. They are not in the business of mining gold >>

There are more juniors producing gold than there are stocks in the XAU Index or the TSE Gold and Silver Index.. I guess it all depends on how you define a junior.
