Peter:
You caught my less-than-subtle suggestion precisely as intended. Not having a pipeline to A.G., I can't ask him to confirm the activity, but it takes less than rocket science to reach the conclusions I posted. Publicly available figures confirm the sales side of the transaction, while missing equivalent figures in the Fed balance sheet strongly suggest the methodology employed. Stated bluntly, Greenspan probably cranked out some fresh greenbacks in exchange for an incoming bale of treasuries.

It is indeed a crazy world, but in the near term, it is going to become a great deal more insane. Deflation has won most engagements with ease over the last few months and has established beach-heads on our shores. Not fun to work and play in a combat zone.
Best, Earlie
