No they were real. Goldstrike, Nevada was the highest grade mine ever in history. Seven hundred ounces to the short ton. It was mined out. When they got into the low grade of 50 ounces to the ton they stopped mining. Don't rush to stake it as Barrick is mining the world's richest open pit gold mine there called the Mercur. Curiously Peter Munk used to get heaved out of brokerages in New York when he tried to sell the open pit potential of the area. Said he was going to start the biggest richest open pit gold mine in the world. They knew he was a blowhard. Lucky fellah, Pete.
