Banks - A new community bank is being started in my local town of 30,000 by some prominent local people. I have been tempted but am inclined to think that the time to get into banking was in the early 90's not now, when credit and economic risks are probably increasing.
Anyone with experience/knowledge in this area care to comment?

Bob:

Yes, I am saying that corporations do get a credit for dividends. The understanding you cite, which is the common understanding, is inaccurate. Unfortunately the credit is not 100%, so there is some double taxation, but it is not as much as most people think.
