I don't believe that it has to measure up in every dimension, but
that somehow it has to have a comparable impact on the way people
work. These sorts of changes that really increase our "reach" are,
I believe, what is missing lately in the database world. It seems
pretty clear that one place to look for this is in connecting
databases with the internet, and I don't believe that things like
datablades really do that. And, as you say, Oracle has tried and
failed so far -- probably they are still trying, as are the other
big vendors, and maybe one of them will get it right. If they don't
do something then the worms will eat them eventually.
