My theory is that confidence is toasted across Asia because of Hong Kong gov intervention on Friday. This would be my guess as to why the Shangaii is also down 6%.

What I would like to know is whether or not Hong Kong markets are supposed to be closed today for holiday.

Otimer,
Lot's of things going on. Nobody hold me to the details because I didn't pick them up. But just strictly from memory:

A. There are some sort of bankruptcies by one of the Asian Tigers and they owe a company in Japan money.
B. There was violence in Korea during some kind of strike.
C. There is a situation brewing between Malaysia and Singapore. And Malaysia is trying to "regain" airspace over Singapore.
D. Indonesia is having an anniversary and there are rumors of more rioting.
E. President Clinton is going to testify before a grand jury.
F. Russia is letting the ruble tumble.

Not a lot of good things. Sorry, about lack of details. Normally I don't do posts like this, but it being 4:36AM, I thought I would make an exception. I briefly read all of this last night and woke up slightly restless to get some more updates.

Stitch would probably know a great deal about the Malaysia situation. I believe this is important because of their locations on the South China Sea.
