Dear Prodigal :

OT ----

It is now officially time for the market to get back on an even keel.

I had pulled your profile last week (there are several JT types) and had found your last post to be in March. I knew it had been a long time, but I didn't realize that much time had elapsed.
Then, within the past few days, --- actually it was at night --- I had a dream about Option Jer and the next day, a friend of Jer's sends me a private message telling me that Jer had been inquiring about me.
Thank heavens I didn't dream about you ....... the coincidence would be really strange.

Drop a line to us once in a while.
Try to make it more often than 5 month intervals......

The reason that I know it's time for the market to get back to normal is that both you ( the big bear ..... ggg) and Jer, (the big bull ....gg) are both back to posting .

Well, even if the wild swings continue, it is nice to have both of you back, and in you absence, Cousin Ike has been doing his usual masterful job of keeping the thread advised and informed.

Regards ---- Nemer

Hi JT,..Re:<<Long time no post>>

Glad to see you come out of the lurk mode. I only wish to point out that, as with many reports, items left out are sometimes equally important as items included.

For instance, Chinese exports slowing only showed Japan, which had been slowing prior to '97 and Asia which showed a steeper slowing; however, they didn't show exports to the US which have picked up considerably. In fact, some are estimating that China will be a bigger trading partner, as far as deficits go, than Japan next year. I don't know the exact numbers but might be able to find them if required.

While the deficit with Japan fell by $0.5 billion in May, this is almost entirely countered by a rising deficit with China.

I guess the whole point is that we can't view headline numbers and must dig into reports because sometimes they are intentionally or unintentionally slanted to a particular viewpoint.

Heavy stuff for a Monday. <VBG>

Regards,

Lee
