Both points (diversification & Y2K) well taken. And, part of what makes HDIE attractive.

But, what's puzzling is HDIE's inability to buck the trend. There are strong technical parallels between the two, which are overriding apparent fundamental distinctions. Starting to beg attention as a contrarian play.

Also concur that news of a deal would be diminished if more sentiment goes south on HBOC. Although, HDIE might be in more of a position to buoy HBOC in regards to the Y2K cards they hold.
