The original all-in-one PC was probably the North Star Advantage. (CP/M machine.) I used to sell those. They were very popular, specifically BECAUSE of their form factor - a great convenience.

The iMac actually looks a lot like an Advantage, which looks a lot like a Lear-Siegler ADM-3 terminal.

And then there was the PET...

And I think Apple should call its new consumer laptops the goMac.

And oddly enough, an external monitor can be connected to the iMac after all. I think you have to unplug the built-in one to do so, but that should placate some of the whiners regarding iMac expansion capabilities.
