Car-Buying Service to be Featured on High-Traffic Portal

STAMFORD, Conn., Aug. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- AutoVantage (http://www.autovantage.com), a leading interactive car-buying service, will become a heavily advertised service on Web portal Lycos (http://www.lycos.com) as part of a strategic advertising agreement between Lycos and AutoVantage, the companies announced today. Lycos is one of the leading portals and search engines on the Internet with approximately 15 million visitors each month.

The agreement provides for AutoVantage's banner advertisements to be displayed throughout Lycos and for AutoVantage buttons to be prominently displayed within Lycos' automotive channel and road maps area.

"This agreement with Lycos represents another step in AutoVantage's strategy of being where the consumers are," said AutoVantage Vice President Ken Esterow. "Recent studies show that about 19 percent of new-vehicle buyers use the Internet to shop for cars and that half of all car buying could take place on the Internet in two years. This new deal with one of the Internet's leading brand-name portals will help AutoVantage continue its phenomenal growth through wider brand exposure."

"We are excited to form this strategic alliance between Lycos and AutoVantage," said David Peterson, Vice President of Advertising, Lycos, Inc. "Car buying online is exploding, and this deal ensures that our users have access to one of the most comprehensive and well-established car-buying sites on the Web."

Founded in 1995, Lycos, Inc. (Nasdaq: LCOS) is a New Generation Online Service that combines all aspects of community, leading Web navigation resources and cutting-edge business and consumer e-commerce solutions. Located at lycos.com - "Your Personal Internet Guide" - is dedicated to helping each individual user locate, retrieve and manage information tailored to his or her personal interests. Through the acquisition of Tripod, Inc., the leading community site on the Web, located at tripod.com, Lycos has become the most full-featured community-oriented home base on the Internet, providing free personal homepages to all users. Headquartered near Boston in Waltham, Mass., Lycos maintains U.S. offices in New York City, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Los Angeles and San Francisco. International offices are located in Germany, Italy, France, Japan, the UK, Spain and the Netherlands.

AutoVantage is one of the most comprehensive free car-buying services on the Internet, providing savings and convenience at each step in the car-buying process. In addition to its hassle-free car-buying service, visitors to the AutoVantage site can access expert car reviews and pricing information, financing and leasing options, a used-car buying and selling service, 360 degree interior car views and an auto insurance rate comparison service - all at no charge to the consumer. AutoVantage is accessible via the Web (www.autovantage.com), where it is the automotive anchor of netMarket, via America Online (keyword: AV), where it is co-branded with AOL, and via toll- free number (1-800-AutoVantage).

A recent independent survey found that AutoVantage users save an average of 8% over a new car's invoice price. More than 50,000 purchase requests from car buyers are processed each month by AutoVantage, which was rated the best interactive car-buying service on the Internet by Motor Trend magazine (Oct. 1996). AutoVantage is a membership service of Cendant Corporation (NYSE: CD), the world's premier provider of consumer and business services.
