Satchell Paige would've made a run at those numbers...didn't he pitch til he was 47?

Close is an interesting term. Bagwell in '94 slugged 750, strike shortened season.. Relatively speaking, that is within 11.5% of the Babe.(847-750)/847 x 100%

But you're right, highly unlikely to beat the Babe's number

Say next year, Sosa hits .350, in 600 AB, 210 hits==>55 HR, 5 3Bs, 35 2Bs, 115 singles==>Total Bases= 55x4 + 5x3 + 35x2 +115x1=420 TB

Slugging Average= 420/600 = .700...a hell of a year and that still wouldn't come close to the Babe.
