I am new to this thread since I am considering moving my account to Datek. However, you are wrong in a sense that "Datek is betting against me". I know of hardly any securities firm that doesn't make markets in securities. It is customary and goes back almost forever in time. This is how market makers make much of their money. If they did not take investment positions the markets would be more volatile than they now are. When stock prices are declining it gives the market maker the opportunity to accumulate shares which at a later date can be sold profitably - BUT ALWAYS AT THE GOING MARKET WHEN THE SALE IS MADE. Clearly shorting is just the opposite.
