CDNow launches CDNow Europe shipping hub

JENKINTOWN, Pa., Aug 17 (Reuters) - Internet music store CDnow Inc. said it launched CDnow in Europe on Monday, with a European shipping hub serving over 37 countries in Europe and the Middle East. CDNow added some 100,000 international titles to its inventory, and provides services in nine languages. A CDNow spokeswoman said the new CDs being sold are European, as well as Middle Eastern and some World Beat titles. She said in most cases purchases for shipment to the United States can be bought are cheaper and can be delivered to the U.S. faster than via traditional channels. "For the (United) states, the CD is delivered in 2-4 days for priority mail, in Europe it is one day," she said. The expansion follows CDnow's April announcement naming CDnow the exclusive music retailer for Lycos Bertelsmann for UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Benelux countries. CDNow shares were trading at 14-1/2 Monday afternoon, up from 13-7/8 at Friday's close. CDnow Europe now serves the following countries: Austria, Belgium, Corsica, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and Vatican City. CDnow offers foreign language translations and a multi-lingual customer service center.
