Fund Mgr: Devaluation Of Ruble Clouds
Emerging-Mkt Outlook

Dow Jones Newswires

NEW YORK -- The devaluation of Russia's currency will continue to
cloud the economic outlook for emerging markets, according to Alliance
New Europe Fund portfolio manager Stephen Beinhacker.

"It exacerbates the trend of not knowing where the rolling sense of crisis
from one emerging market to another will end," Beinhacker said in an
interview with CNBC Monday.

Beinhacker sees the problems in Russia as an extension of Asian economic
woes. He believes that the chain of events that weakened Russia's
economy could easily spread to Brazil, which is weathering a controversial
election process.

If China devalues its currency, Beinhacker said, the uncertainty concerning
emerging markets would be perpetuated further.

Yet the portfolio manager does not expect a devaluation in China.

"A devaluation would actually get them nothing," he said.

Beinhacker said his fund continues to pick stocks based on company
fundamentals.

He looks for cyclically oriented and defensive companies that show both
fundamental growth and a strong quality of management.
