Gerald,

If you want to know how much Solaris costs, call Sun Sales &
Service. Until you have that information, your speculation
as to what SUNW means by releasing a free Solaris is pretty
much a waste of time.

You may be surprised to learn that Solaris for workgroups of
25 or greater is actually less expensive out-of-the-box than
NT and, because of its clear superiority as an OS, is far less
expensive to implement & maintain.

I hope you're not one of those MSFT-types who still think that
if it's from SUNW it must be more expensive. It may have been
that way 2-3 years ago, but since then SUNW has made significant
strides in both software & hardware to make it more affordable
to low-end users, where they compete with PC's & NT. SUNW is
already known for quality & service and they are not going to
concede price to an also-ran like MSFT.

BTW: I don't make bets.
