Hi Mark,

>>>"Are ye not Gods", and being made in the "image and likeness" of God, suggest something else. <<<

Ok Mark, so you take these verses to stand alone. Not part of a conversation, or not part of a discourse or nothing. Just stand alone?? And you FOR SURE take these Bible scriptures as GOSPEL???

Mark,

Re: nose. Just checking as I've tripped on it before. My wife calls it a target of opportunity.

I agree with you regarding the literal interpretation of scripture, yet this is the perfect example of the application of II Timothy 2:15
" rightly dividing the truth. "

If something is confusing a concordance helps me out tremendously in searching out cross references in scripture.

I agree with Dan regarding the magistrates or judges interpretation of that passage. Here is another example of that thought from Exodus ch 22:28 Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.

In the King James Version I use, there is a distinction in using "g" for the reference to gods here as opposed to "G" in reference to God the Father.

Scripture denotes figurative and literal in cases such as Revelation 4 :1 ....the first voice which I heard WAS AS IT WERE of a trumpet talking with me

Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tounges LIKE AS OF fire..

Then the literal regarding Jesus (I have to throw this in):0)
Acts 4:12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

In His love,
John

Dear Mark,
I have very little input on this but want to share some observations. If we are using a scripture then I feel the scriptures are useable for consideration. It starts with this account in Genesis chapter 3;
<<1: Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2: And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3: But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4: And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6: And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7: And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.>>
In my understanding Psalm 82 is referring to this attitude of desiring to be a god to have autonomy from God. The original root of their sin was humanism and a fake confidence in their own wisdom verses the loving Creator that breathed life into them. For in Psalm 82 the text goes on to say but you will die like a mere man. That brings back the reality that we still have to die because God has set it that way and we can not be wiser or greater than the one that made us. I personally desire to know everything I can about this awesome Spirit that is pure love.
What do you think it means that we are gods?
With sincere interest,
Nancy

Mark (from Bob),

If you're going to take the Bible literally always then what about these verses?

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me" - John 14:6

Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgement to the Son, that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. - John 5:22-23

Then they asked him, "What must we do to do the works God requires?" Jesus answered, "The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent". - John 6:28-29

"I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins" - John 8:24

Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgement, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people. - Hebrews 9:27

I pray that you will embrace the whole Bible literally not just pieces of it. I could go on and on with verses such as these that can be taken literally to show you that Jesus is the way to salvation. The salvation message through Jesus is not open to some wishy washy interpretation but is VERY literal.

I'll speak with you soon. Question God about the truth of His Word, He'll answer you.

Through His love,

Bob
