Diamond Multimedia's SupraExpress 56 Modem Wins MacHome's Home Choice Award
SupraExpress 56 For Macintosh Picked For Speed And Reliability
VANCOUVER, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 25, 1998--Diamond Multimedia Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:DIMD - news), a leader in interactive multimedia acceleration, announced today that its SupraExpress(TM) 56 modem for Macintosh computers was awarded MacHome's coveted Home Choice award in its August 1998 issue.

The Home Choice award recognizes Diamond's commitment to bring leading edge communications products to the small office and home with an emphasis on improving connectivity, increasing bandwidth and designing products that are easy to use. MacHome editors single out the finest products in several hardware and software categories to come up with the Home Choice awards, including desktop system, portable system, monitor, printer, scanner and more.

''Now that my ISP seems to have gotten its 56K act together, I love my SupraExpress 56 modem. It's fast, it's small, and it works,'' said MacHome's copy chief Ellen Rush. MacHome's editor emeritus, Ed Prasek said, ''When it comes to modems, the only things I want are speed and reliability. The SupraExpress 56 series provides these and much more.''

The SupraExpress 56 line consists of three models for the PC and one for Mac, ranging in price from $99.95 to $129.95. Designed for optimized 56K performance, the SupraExpress 56 series of modems incorporate K56flex and V.90 technology for some of the highest transmission speeds available today over ordinary phone lines.

''We are pleased that the editors of MacHome recognized the SupraExpress 56 with a Home Choice award,'' said Jim Cady, vice president and general manager of Diamond Multimedia's Communications Division. ''Diamond developed the SupraExpress 56 to deliver reliable V.90, 56Kbps performance with the features and ease of use Macintosh users expect from their peripheral products.''

Advancing Technologies

Diamond Multimedia continues to bring new and exciting technologies to its PC customer base such as Shotgun(TM) technology, Diamond's advanced modem bonding software capable of delivering Internet connections of up to 112Kbps. ISPs are now supporting Shotgun in approximately 2,000 cities across North America. In addition, Diamond recently announced an agreement with Nortel to use its 1-Meg modem technology in the development of a DSL (Digital Subscriber Line) based PCI card modem. Diamond and Nortel will combine their respective channel and central office experience, brand and infrastructure to grow the market for Nortel's 1-Meg. Nortel has received approximately $1 billion in USD in confirmed orders for its DSL central office equipment.

Diamond has also created a new Home Networking business unit that is committed to deliver a line of home gateway and wireless networking products this year.
