Nixon was not involved in the burglary. It was done without his knowledge. He could not be convicted of that activity. His criminal transgression was the coverup. Clinton has done nothing illegal (criminally speaking) in having sex with Monica. While it probably fits the definition of sexual harassment that is a civil matter. Perjury, obstruction, etc. those are criminal matters of which Mr. Clinton can be convicted in a criminal sense. Technically, Bill Vaughn is right and sexual harassment is "illegal" however I was speaking solely in a criminal sense. The comparison to Watergate is still apposite. The object of the coverup is of no moment. it is the coverup which is the issue, especially when the President is asked under oath. JLA

PS In case you are wondering I consider the dalliance by a 50 year old married man, our President, with a 21 year old intern employed in the WH to be morally reprehensible and evidence of a serious defect in judgment and character. IMO much more serious than a "two bit" burglary. JLA

A criminal activity was involved in Watergate was it not? And, with the possible exception of Mr. Vaughn's lawyer, does anyone here see anything criminal in this relationship between Clinton/Monica?

The actual burglary involved in Watergate was a misdemeanor, not a felony. Perjury is a felony.

I don't think the actual relationship between Clinton/Monica is "criminal" (ie it won't land you in jail) but it is sexual harrassment in a federal workplace, and therefore is grounds for firing which in Clinton's case makes it grounds for impeachment.
