If the doom and gloomers of the world are correct, the entire North American power grid is going to shut down so we'll have much bigger things to worry about at that point.

Sandstuff, the software issue as far as the y2k issue goes is like this the billing can be done from the gateways and although the call will pass thru the local telco, the billing aspect will be handled from it's passing thru the gateway negating the compliance issue, now if thier entire system fails because of y2K problems, that is another issue but, the "wire" does not need to read dates or times it only needs to carry the packets. and when a call is terminated, the gateway will get a signal that the call has been terminated and the billing will stop.

Indeed if there is a system wide shutdown of the respective telco's because, of the y2k then calls won't pass beyond the gateway but, the gateways are the terminating and origin points to and from, so as long as their systems are compliant and there is no major shutdown of the respective countries entire phone system...Simarily, here in the US, how many of our Major telco's can boast today, that they are currently y2K compliant?

We are talking Major Cities with Major Infrastructure that is most likely as up to speed as we are here we are not the only civilized technology country in the world although we do hold leads in many if not most areas, by now all the world respective govts are aware of the problem and hopefully like ours, the govts know they have a large problem and have trully begun to upgrade in earnest... the IRS, is just one such system that is still non compliant and behind.
