My guess...they want to become a household word so that babyboomers
and the uninformed will include them in their 401k's.
It's my definition of shareholder support.

Does anyone have a questimate of percentages of institutional/informed investors vs individual investors that do not spend much time understanding this business,but put their money in a winner, in the market as a whole?
I know this ratio must have changed since the immediate
spread of News, information around the world within seconds and
the masses are putting their money in the market. I know the big money makes the difference and sets the trends but do the pro's
agree that the modern market has been held up by the long term investors and that the 401 people have not panicked when the market
has corrected. If this is the case, then IMHO Cisco is going to do exactly what Richard say's...anyone thinking of purchasing anything that has to do with networking and video/cable etc, will automatically
assume Cisco products will outperform all others and they will still be in business in five years and they probably will be willing to pay alittle more for the comfort that the Cisco name will bring.
This will be hard to beat but with this type of business growing exponentially there will be plenty of work for the mid-size companies,
such as MRVC IMHO. Cisco really hasn't been able to dominate and have the same research and development advantage that Intel has enjoyed...Have they?
At least I hope not.

Richard, CSCO is going for subliminals.

So few engineering decisions are made on technical merit. Really, that's my experience.

The stuff that can be clearly demonstrated as superior is a "no brainer", and just happens. The decisions are made on intangibles, such as "Is it better to have raw horsepower and low cost, or name brand, proprietary software"

Could be MRVC vs. CSCO, or Unix vs. NT. These decisions are based on what people want to do, not on quantitative merits.

So Cisco pumps up it's brand awareness. If advertising didn't work, it wouldn't be so prominent. That's my opinion- but I have been know to drink supermarket cola.

This is indirectly related to your post regarding customers.

It is reported the company says they are not for sale. I think this is what they should say. Stating otherwise would negatively impact potential and current customers, particularly in the highly competitive market they are in and their move away from being an OEM supplier. My personal view is that MRVC will be acquired; by whom, I have no idea.

I previously posted that the acquisition issue is a serious risk for shorts. I still think it is.

RE: the CSCO marketing; no effect.

Took my computer to my internet supplier for connection problem.
Long chat.
He is a small operator in a small Texas City. Plans to double his networking equipment in next few months.
Has a Cisco 250 Gateway Autorouter ( price $2,200 ) on top of about ten Lucent Livingston Portmaster 3s (each about $30,000). He buys over the internet through www.pricewatch.com/. He says they are the best, the cheapest available and have the best tech backup. I say have you considered MRVC ----- the inside word is that they are the best, the cheapest with possibly the best tech backup. (inside being this thread). He says never heard of MRVC..
We access www.pricewatch.com/, no mention of MRVC, or NBase or Xyplex. Cisco, Bay, OSICOM( in spite of the creaming they got in Barrons recently) etc etc all in their with their latest products and prices.
We briefly scan a bunch of trade journals--- no mention of MRVC--- although I know MRVC has been advertising from this thread. There seem to be a whole lot of trade journals around.
It would seem to me that we have to address the full potential of advertising over the internet, and possibly to target advertise to internet suppliers. Eg target faxes-- I get 4-5 faxes per day-- all end up in trash but they each get a glance-- and if its interesting I follow through.
Anyway this network administrator was interested in MRVC equipment so I have contacted a supplier of MRVC equipment -- heard of over this thread-- to contact him.
Big market-- one small city in Texas with 5 internet suppliers each wanting to double their supply, add on the hundreds of other small cities in Texas, plus Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin. Perhaps part of the $100,000,000 should be directed to prime spots on CNBC!
Just some thoughts from MD with no knowledge of computers or networking who wants to get MRVC up to where it belongs. I hope I am correct in assuming MRVC makes these products to compete with Cisco and Lucent.
