Nobody knows how much of the talk about Y2K is hype from companies that want to be hired to fix the problem, but the federal government has a long history of botched computer programs. If anybody will be in trouble, it will probably be the feds. However. congress is as likely to get the blame as the administration.
I've always thought it odd that the president gets the credit for good times, when congress and the federal reserve are far more important. Clinton can take credit for a booming economy and stock market that he had little to do with. In his favor, I will say that he isn't anti- business, which helped.
