FOCUS-Euro markets soar, shrug off Russia, Clinton

LONDON, Aug 18 (Reuters) - European markets romped ahead on Tuesday, buoyed after the Dow shrugged off Russia's effective devaluation and as worries receded that U.S. President Bill Clinton would be impeached over the White House sex scandal.

The dollar was firm against the mark in morning trade but easier against the yen amid fears of central bank intervention.

The market was relieved there had been no surprises from Clinton's testimony on Monday about his relationship with former White House intern Monica Lewinsky, analysts said, but added that the dollar did not seem to be much affected by the issue.
