Thanks Pat. A few months IBD had a write-up about whisper number. Unfortunately I did not save that article. From recollection only: Earnings estimates are the ones officially published by the brokerage firms and compiled by Zacks etc. Then as the end of the quarter approaches, some analysts might notice some development which they think might influence the official estimates. The analysts then gives new guidance to their valued customers such as mutual funds, pension funds etc. A new estimate is conveyed to them (while the offical estimate remains). This becomes the whisper number that is used by institutions to make decision to buy or sell. At that time cyberchats were not mentioned. This time Susan Watts makes a reference to that. Paul
