What some graphic designers are saying on the newslists: So... we have one here; and after staring at it for a bit, I decided I don't really like it (from a design point of view -- great machine otherwise). I mean, I like it because it's different and just plain fun, but... I don't *really* like it -- I wouldn't (and didn't) go "hey, that's a great looking machine!". It's just cool in that weird "it's different" way. The mouse is another story, however -- that is really cool looking (I can't speak to its comfort, as I haven't had a chance to really use it). Opinions? -anabella It looks too much like the old junky terminals that used to be de rigeur in the mid-80s. I associate the look with sticky keys that don't always work and take a great deal of effort to press and amber screens 80x24 characters. Sure it's not really like that, but the association is still there. Sort of like, that certain shade of orange always makes me think "dreamsicle". -dh Anabella, I don't really get it either! I've only seen pictures so far, but it looks very much like a FisherPrice design--like the "My First Boombox" sort of thing, if you know what I am talking about. I like that FisherPrice look very much in small doses, but don't necessarily want a big chunk of it in the middle of my apartment. For me, a nice black box & monitor would be closer to "cool" than bright blue and white plastic. Does Mac make black boxes? I've only seen black laptops. Are boring beige monitors somehow less distracting/easier on the eyes? I've never really understood why computers didn't go the design road of home electronics, i.e. black. I'm just waiting for the iMac to come free with a Kinder Surprise or chocolate bar for kids, it's already got the right look! -mike As I was wheeling a new monitor toward the checkout stand at the local electronics store tonight, I couldn't help but notice a crowd of about six guys all staring, mesmerized, at the iMac on display. No one spoke a word. Just click click, mouse mouse, click click. Their eyes glowed, like kids at Christmas. It was a awe-inspiring sight. As someone said, this seems like very good news for Apple. -Frank >Ever see a NeXT machine? Check out a NeXTstation or a NeXTcube. >Pure black. In fact, the machines are referred to as "black >hardware." The mouse has a strange, but intentional, resemblance >to Darth Vadar. Yes... but they are not made anymore. Jobs gave that up to make translucent little machines instead. :-) Anabella ---what they don't realize is that it's not FOR graphic designers!!!! Thought this was an interesting reaction! PDG
