Yes. And the average consumer/investor-speculator/media digestor will be so caught up in the fact that a huge amount of change is occuring that they will throw huge amounts of money at the "early adopters".

I agree that it will be a scary, largely uncontrollable mess for years to come. It will result in greater efficiencies in almost every imaginable aspect of society (even government will become less hiearchical and more efficient - well, it might). That could lead to a lot of concentration of production and distribution of mass consumer items in fewer hands. But on the other side of the coin, there also may develop an quickening of decentralization and rapid growth of cottage industries and personalized service. It could cause a greater divergence between the producers and cosumers of society. It will almost certainly cause a greater rift between the technically literate and illiterate. This is a story that will take decades to play itself out entirely - we havn't seen anything yet.
