Steve: I will not extend this impasse of ours beyond this parting comment. We have become repetitious. And there is fresh ground to cover. As this is one of the very few exchanges I have had in my life where I assume the role of pragmatist rather than idealist, there is somehow the thrill explorers must feel in discovering new territory, land, sea, or skies. The scene is set: Clinton is sworn in for his first term. He is positioned at a Start Line. Within a reasonable distance is a Finish Line at which are Accomplishments (Russian Economy, US Economy, The Balkans, Asia...all those things you have mentioned). Smack in the middle of the route from Start Line to Finish Line is a relatively small area of darkened road. Signs, fences, flags, ribbons, PA systems, whistles, horns, to mention but a few, warn: DANGER! QUIFFSAND! ENTER AT CERTAIN PERIL! So, Clinton begins his trek towards Accomplishments. On reaching the edge of the Quiffsand, he hesitates imperceptibly. (There is passage way to the left and to the right. He is not at a road block.) And he proceeds to step off onto the darkened patch. Which instantly engulfs him. So, he never reaches Accomplishments - because of his own actions! Alex spelled the above in Gary Hart script. I am perplexed by your insisting on seeing the Bigger Picture - when Occham, the Razor guy, would limit the analysis to deliberate stepping off into quite obvious Quiffsand. If this sounds silly, many things on these threads sound silly. (Which is the Ike did it, George did it, they all did it argument, and therefore invalid.) So, push Next. With undiminished admiration, George
