More good news !!! The Home Depot Unveils Details For 10 New Expo Design Centers PR Newswire - August 18, 1998 08:18 ATLANTA, Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot (NYSE: HD), the world's largest home improvement retailer, today unveiled further details of its expansion plans for EXPO Design Centers, including two of the home interior design showrooms for fiscal 1998 and eight more in fiscal 1999. The two EXPO Design Centers planned for later this year will be in Boynton Beach, FL; and Plano, TX. Six of the eight locations planned for fiscal 1999 include Houston; Smithtown, NY; Fairfax, VA; Marietta, GA; Monrovia, CA; and Huntington Beach, CA. The remaining two locations planned for 1999 will be announced at a later date. Bryant Scott, president of the EXPO division, said EXPO is expected to grow to approximately 200 stores in the next six to seven years. The company began development of the EXPO concept with its first store in San Diego in 1991, followed by locations in Atlanta, Westbury, NY; Dallas; Miami; and Davie, FL; over a seven-year period. "By the time we opened our sixth store in Davie last April, we had refined the concept to the point that we are now ready to begin a more aggressive expansion program," said Scott. Scott said the time taken to develop EXPO was driven by a desire to provide a mix of quality products and the highest levels of service to customers undertaking larger home renovation projects. He also noted that this approach is paying off with "the highest comparable store sales performance of The Home Depot's divisions for the year-to-date. "The stores are creating high levels of customer satisfaction due to a focused mix of products, as well as the specialized design and installation services provided by highly qualified designers, project coordinators and the other members of the EXPO team," he said. "The formula for our next 200 stores focuses on total solutions for customers undertaking renovation projects throughout their homes. Each store will feature more than 20 complete kitchen and bath vignettes to help customers visualize their dreams. We also will offer one of the broadest ranges of appliances, floor coverings, tiles, lighting products and window and wall-coverings available under one roof." The next EXPO Design Center will open in November 1998 in Boynton Beach, FL. This EXPO will be the first to open adjacent to a Home Depot store. "We believe there are synergies to be gained between Home Depot and EXPO," said Scott. "In many cases, we are serving the same customers but satisfying different needs for them. Our Boynton Beach locations will make it convenient for our customers to find the products and services they need for almost any home improvement project." EXPO is a division of The Home Depot, which was named America's Most Admired Specialty Retailer by Fortune magazine for the last five years. The company was founded in 1978 and currently operates 683 stores in the U.S. and Canada. It will open its first Home Depot in Puerto Rico and Chile later this year.
