Mark, First off, I don't believe our discussion to be anything attacking. I enjoy the talks. If at anytime my posts seem offensive, it is my ineptness at expressing myself :-). I agree that if we are to interpret the Bible literally, quoting other verses doesn't explain your question about the "gods" thing. I went to other literal verses because of all the fans out there who for some reason grab onto 1 verse (usually out of context) and formulate their beliefs or even an entire religion on that 1 verse. (I don't believe your doing that but want to illustrate the point). I want people to see other literal verses that they can grab onto that have some meat and potatoes. It always annoys me when people hold onto a part of the Bible but refuse to embrace the Messiah who is what the book is about. It's like going to a movie and noticing nothing except the color of the sky in the outdoor shots. Sorry, let me get off of my soapbox again. I do want you to understand that quite often the Bible does use imagery, in those cases a literal interpretation does not work. I'm no theologian, but I understand that the way to study the Bible is to take it literally first. If the literal translation of the verse or passage to does dwell harmoniously with the rest of Scripture than the literal interpretaion is wrong (There is a word for this approach). In that case, a figurative interpretation should be pursued. I would say that is a dangerous approach if not for a couple of points: 1. The Bible is a large book 2. In that large book, all ideas are repeated several times throughout. Both literally as well as figuratively. Because of point number two, you don't have to worry about missing a point in a figurative verse because it will be discussed again. cya Bob
