Here is the link to the Symbios/IBM storage solution. Looks like they supply the drives, adapters, controllers, hubs, software, and everthing you need to connect them. A very neat package:

More specifics on the components are available on different spots on their site. There are other companies making similar storage that can be attached to networks, in fact Cisco made a deal with one of them recently:

adic.com (see Fastor)

There is clearly a ton of easily attched storage available. In my opinion, this probably pushes the market out for switches and gives more people the opportunity to make their own.
