Robert,

Talking about earnings and growth in earnings could never be boring! ;-)

Do you believe that periods of high innovation in either products or processes lead to growth in profits? If so, then the period of margin / earnings growth should last at least as long as the innovations from integrating electronics / communications in the various products and services making up the economy.

IMO, this could be a very long time.

Ian.

Robert,

the S&P stuff is not only not boring but also somewhat on topic.

Expanding on this growth topic, it was not that long ago when everyone was talking about Asia. How great the little tigers are!! How great China is going to be when the 1.2 billion people started buying a big Mac everyday!! How India will be next!! How fast Vietnam is recovering!!

My point being that so much of the S&P companies were counting on growth from Asia and other emerging markets, therefore justifying its record high PE. Time has proven these projections to be able as erroneous as can be.

Am I just being too chicken little?
