The chip analysts were blindsided by the up and down moves in this sector in 1994 and 1995. I remember Drew Peck being wildly off base when the sector's earnings started to turn down, and he's supposed to be good. My guess is that the analysts will also fail to call the next big upside surprise for the semi group. I don't know when it will come, but it will come. The upside potential for many chip companies is awesome. The fund managers will not want to be late to the party, so I expect any big up moves to be sharp and happen over relatively few trading days.
