I'd pick the same service in my real world situation as I would in a hypothetical one...the fastest within a reasonable price range.

Where I am located, there is no offering from the cable company, the RBOC is PAC BELL, and the best connection speed on their lines in this area is 28.8K...so that's the speed available to me. Satellite is too expensive and the cost to benefit isn't there.

I'd buy xDSL, ADSL, G.Lite, DSL Lite or cable if they where available at the right price. For my needs G.Lite would be sufficient along with being satisfactory for my use at this time. Any faster would be nice...but easily gone without.

You said...

"I mean, would you be using a cable modem at home and then settle for lower speed at the office?"

I've heard from some who are living with this situation currently and they say it is frustrating at the least.
