It would serve the purpose of delay. That's a Clinton favorite. JLA

Yeah with regards to firing Starr, I agree I thought it would be political suicide. But these guys on NPR seemed to think otherwise. The caller made an excellent point that in general people are really disliking this personal witchhunt, regardless of how they feel about Clinton. And there is a dichotomy in that Washington in general is not held up to the same standard. Im sure he wont fire Starr. Personally Id like him to though. I find Starrs tactics deplorable. (exclusive of my feelings regarding Clinton's antics)

Firing Starr requires appointment of a replacement. This incident
must be bewildering to a huge majority of people around the globe
where most high ranking officials are above the law. This really
accentuates the strength of the republic - it will continue to
thrive despite of this.

The public will render a judgement this Nov. If the Republican narrowly escaped the loss of either the House or Senate, that will
end the investigation. Until then this scandal will continue to
serve as a whip to weaken President Clinton to the point
a Democrat nominee will have no benefit of President Clinton's
coattail the way President Bush did with President Reagan.

If the polls are correct and if the election could be called today,
Dem would very likely regain control one part of Congress. I'm for
one would vote that way.
