Mike, I probably shouldn't dwell on this, but the "uptick" today can be explained by virtue of the market being up another 140 points. A few brave managers have dipped into SLB in the low 50's. Some others are up fractionally as well, but several issues in the sector are down fractionally or unchanged.

The next event here are the API numbers tonight. If they look good, maybe the environment will improve. And, maybe some traders will buy during the next half hour in anticipation of good numbers. But so far today, the sector is not impressive. Let's hope for a good close and good numbers.

Mike - Here are CUT AND PASTE DIRECTIONS:

When you want to copy anything from another site -
1. Highlight what you want to copy by holding down left mouse button and dragging mouse across copy. This works for anything from a headline to many paragraphs. (You can also highlight the "location" in the top bar of your browser and copy that. That saves having to type "http:/etc.", etc. in a new location.) The copy should turn blue.
2. On browser MENU at top, click on EDIT. Then choose COPY and click.
3. The copy is now on your Notepad, but you can't see it. Don't worry - it's there.
4. Now go to the site you want to PASTE the copy in. Position the cursor where you want the copy to begin. Choose EDIT, then click on PASTE. Your copy should appear in the new location.

It's easy.

Betty

Actually I believe SI has a policy against pasting full articles. Much better is to copy the headline and past it with a link. No need to duplicate all that text here on SI when it is readily available by following a link. Also makes it easier on readers who want to skip a particular article--makes browsing messages faster.

Mike, here is an article concerning marginal stripper wells

amarillonet.com

as you've mentioned, I believe the problem is worldwide - Venezuela has shut down 59% of their rigs and Russia's production capability is vulnerable. OPEC miscalculations (increasing production by 10%) created the 'glut' but producers worldwide are helping to 'correct' the problem. Also the offshore rig count tumbled by four last week

offshore-data.com

The illusion of the endless glut is just that - an illusion. It would be impossible to sustain the price of oil at $12.00 (fob port of lading) because at that price the production infrastructure is crumbling.

Best of luck,

Steve
