New York Gets DSL Internet Access of Epoch
Proportions; Epoch Internet Partners With Covad
Communications to Enter Largest Market in the
Nation

August 18, 1998

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE) via NewsEdge
Corporation -- Epoch Internet, one of the nation's
largest privately held Internet solutions providers, is
leading the establishment of business-class digital
subscriber line (DSL) Internet service in multiple
regions across the country, and is now entering
New York City and expanding coverage in Boston.

Over 400,000 businesses and residences in
Manhattan, the Bronx, Brooklyn, Queens, and
Staten Island will have access to Epoch's DSL
service -- TSpeed(TM). During the following months,
most of the greater metropolitan area will have DSL
access to the Internet, including parts of
Connecticut, Westchester County, and Northern
New Jersey.

Epoch initially made its TSpeed service available to
select Southern California cities in June, and also
entered the Northern California and Boston markets
earlier this year.

Implementing its mission to connect the world, one
business at a time, Epoch is leveraging the
capabilities of facilities-based competitive local
exchange carriers (CLECs) in each of the markets it
enters. For the New York market, Epoch is working
with Covad Communications for local telephone loop
connections as its partner in delivering DSL.

Epoch's TSpeed delivers dedicated Internet access
at scalable speeds from 144 Kbps to 1.5 Mbps
(comparable to T-1 access) -- up to 50 times faster
than typical dial-up connections using modems and
10 times faster than ISDN service. The user selects
an access speed according to individual company
needs. Additionally, TSpeed typically is a fraction of
the cost of T-1 access.

TSpeed customers receive a feature-packed set of
Internet capabilities: an e-mail address for each
workstation, software including Internet
Explorer(TM) 4.0 and Outlook Express(TM), 24x7
customer support, use of all necessary equipment,
and complete installation with inside wiring. Domain
name registration (companyname.com) and Web
site set-up services are available.
