Well, I don't think Reagan would have made a good nun either. My point wasn't about separation of church and state, but rejecting the naive notion that political leaders should be chosen for anything but their political qualities. Since I am Canadian, George Washington's views have no special moral force over me. I have to decide whether I agree with them or not, as in fact do you. (There are presumably some sayings of Washington with which you disagree.) Now whether Washington was correct in saying that there is no basis for morality without religion is an interesting question. I'm not sure I understand in any case how this remark is relevant to the present matter. You will, I'm sure, explain.
