Hi Scott, M. Murphy picks different stocks that he recommends in his California Technology Stock Letter. So for him, Atmel is a good pick under 10$, but he believe that there will be some selling pressure until the end of this year.

Some his picks; CUBE, SEEQ, INTL, Macromedia, Rogue Software, Powerwave, Cymer, Lam Research, Novellus, etc...

I learned about Atmel through him and bought some around 14 and saw it up until 21 to come down to the actual level. (Morale : Why not taking a fast profit of 50% instead of a loss of about the same ? Answer : greed is killing us !)

Regards,

Louis

Peterkin, turbi, Don, et al: Paine Webber is a MM in this and my broker cousin is based in San Jose where Atmel is headquartered. He has MANY friends at the various Silicon Valley firms. Atmel holds respect among the pc nerds there. There is also much stock held by Investor Clubs, and Paine Webber's latest report believes the company will have one more bad to level quarter, but explosive growth in 99. Their rating is STILL as a buy! At a Paine-W tech conference, my cousin directly asked about ATML since I hold so much and the analyst responded that he considered it one of the best oversold buys in the tech market at this time. He is researching S3 and SGI, but must see gains by both before his endorsement. I last avg in at 11, and hold more that enough, so I do not plan to buy any more.............well, maybe. But I would have to hear that ATML was merging with INTC or something wild like that.

Scott: HE JUST THOUGHT THAT THIS ONE WOULD BE A
GOOD BUY UNDER $10....but, wanted to wait for it to be
"washed out" from tax selling (in December). IMHO why wait -
start the holding period the earlier the better...unless one thinks
it will go LOTS lower due to tax selling.
BWDIK
Best,
Don
