The following is a great read on the dedication to the printing
press industry by the oldest Press manufacturer in the world.
They also happen to be a partner in the new Scitex/KBA 74
Karat press to be released at IPEX in Sept.
The 74 Karat is the main reason that Heidelberg is trying to
build a prototype (SM-74-DI) press in this size range.

It looks as though KBA is giving them fits in other press sizes as well.

WHEN A SLEEPING GIANT STIRS

ROD HAYES wonders whether the new KBA 105 will give
Heidelberg and MAN Roland sleepless nights
------------------------------------------------------------------------
When a press manufacturer launches a new press it can be
difficult to decide how 'new' it actually is. Any launch will be
accompanied by a certain amount of hype, and not a little
enthusiasm, but it is widely understood that a 'new' press in
most cases is often an extensive reworking of an existing
model. There is much to suggest with the launch of the KBA
105, however, that it is a genuinely new press, rather than a
revamp of the existing 104, which it replaces.

Apart from the mechanical and technological developments
on the press, there is a philosophical change of attitude from
KBA, which goes right to the heart of the company's
corporate identity. The Dresden works of Planeta is now an
integral part of KBA, so much so that this sheetfed press arm
is responsible for one third of all group sales.
